I worked in collaboration with Tambo Tambulani Tambo, a cultural association working in Pemba, North Mozambique. Tambo Tambulani Tambo needed a poster that would both reflect their local culture and promote their annual festival; a festival focused on local Mozambican traditions and art. However, it was important for Tambo Tambulani Tambo to have a look that felt contemporary. I decided to print on local capulanas (pieces of cloth used by Mozambicanfor many different purposes such as clothes, bags, towels). I then asked people from Tambo to series of capulanas, which I then used to silkscreen the information about the festival. The idea was meant to cut costs, as the posters could be reused for other editions of the festival.
